icates a willingness to learn how to cast spells and do magic, and not just a desire to "show off." The first necessary thing is knowledge. Knowledge is power, and to cast spells and do magic, power is necessary. We all have it; it just needs to be nurtured, developed, and tamed. You might have heard of "The Witch's Pyramid." This is a philosophy of four tenets necessary for successful spellwork. These are: To Know, To Dare, To Will, and to Keep Silent. You need the KNOWledge about herbs, colors, candles, moon phases, and the mindset and attitudes necessary to complete that work. These are available in books and on the Internet. You need to Dare to use that knowledge. You need the WILL to carry it out, and the self-control to KEEP SILENT after the work is done.
In Wicca, there is also a moral code known as the Rede. This basically says that you can harm no one, even yourself. You also cannot violate free will. That means that curses, hexes, and love spells are out. Of course, not all witches are Wiccan and , therefore, not bound by the Rede. However, all power you send out comes back to you three times magnified--good and bad. I don't really think you would want to waste any karma points on revenge. If you are truly interested in preventing someone from harming someone else, there are binding spells that would be perfectly approporiate. These are not to be used lightly. The bast thing would be to write your own spellworking, carefully crafted and individualized to your situation. All the trappings and extras like altar cloths, candles, etc. serve to focus your concentration and power, which is the utimate goal before you send that power out to accomplish your goals. Don't think that being a real witch is anything like the Hollywood version. If it were that easy and simple to point your finger at someone, or draw a circle and think someone out of existence, we would be all powerful, not to mention fabulously rich and the envy of all and sundry.
To ensure your success as you learn to cast spells and do magic, you must remember that the Earth has energies that can be used and harnessed for your benefit. This is one of the core philosophies of Wicca, witchcraft, and all earth-based disciplines and religions. Respect the Earth and She will provide. This is another version of the Golden Rule that is in the vast majority of all the world's religions. It is likely that your first foray into spellwork will merely be a teaser for you, prompting you to read and learn all you can about the subject. As I said before, knowledge is power! Use it without taking advantage of people, and you will never go wrong. May the Lord and Lady look upon your attempts with favor.and may every day bring joy, blessings and wonder into your present life.
Good luck and Blessed Be!
